I want to learn more
about SOLO

SOLO is the leader in wilderness medicine training in the United States. Our 30+ year history is one of expertise, innovation, and growth, and the owners, managers, and teaching staff at SOLO are committed to making the learning experience the best it can be. For a detailed look at who SOLO is, click the history link below—in the meantime, here are some highlights:

SOLO is the only school in the country with a campus dedicated solely to teaching wilderness medicine (on 300 acres in the heart of the White Mountains).

SOLO has been under the same ownership for its entire history, and many on the staff have been with the
company for decades.

SOLO is owned by Dr. Frank Hubbell, recognized as a national leader in the development of wilderness medicine education and training, and a recipient of numerous awards.

SOLO has trained over 110,000 people since 1976—many of them at the Conway, NH campus, and many more across the US and around the world.

SOLO developed the first Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), and
Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT) curricula in the US.

SOLO has created innovative programs for professional rescuers, law enforcement personnel,
international travelers, missionaries, and physicians.

SOLO courses have been adopted, accepted, and/or accredited by state and federal entities,
national EMS organizations, colleges and universities.

SOLO has continuously published the Wilderness Medicine Newsletter (WMN)—the leading journal of wilderness medicine—since 1988 (online since 2002, and with its own WMN blog since 2006).

SOLO has published widely, including: Medicine for the Backcountry and the SOLO Field Guide to Wilderness
First Aid

SOLO created its own publishing company, TMC Books, in 2002, which produces its textbooks and course
support materials.

SOLO has been featured on several television series and in numerous national magazines.
